Balancing Security with Accessibility Using Traffic Safety Posts

Traffic safety posts are intended to provide sufficient security for many different types of locations, but they also need to allow access for authorized vehicles and pedestrians into facilities. If traffic safety posts are either too lenient or too intrusive when it comes to security, complications can arise. There should be a clear balance between security and accessibility, without any potentially detrimental compromise. Removable, collapsible and fixed traffic bollards are relied on for light-duty and heavy-duty security as well as effective vehicle access control. There are several ways to balance safety and make sure that traffic posts meet both security and access control requirements of different areas.

Traffic Safety Posts Should Be Sturdy Enough to Withstand some Impact where necessary

Pedestrian-heavy locations such as shopping malls and schools require adequate security measures to protect pedestrians and property from vehicle damage. However, some security measures might be too extreme for specific locations. For instance, a concrete fence barrier wouldn't be ideal for protecting a storefront, but properly spaced fixed traffic safety posts can keep vehicles away while also providing visual deterrence. Some traffic bollards are designed to meet low-speed and high-speed impact crash standards, causing vehicles to come to a complete stop before damage is done.

Bollards Must Allow for Authorized Access

While many locations will require consistent access restriction to keep unauthorized visitors from accessing a site, such as a hazardous construction zone, they also need to allow authorized personnel and emergency vehicles to easily access the area. Collapsible or removable traffic posts allow users to easily alter vehicle access control levels in the event of emergency. Collapsible posts allowing the user to quickly raise and lower them, while removable posts allow for swift setup and removal. The spacing of fixed posts should permit emergency personnel and other authorized individuals to easily access certain areas as well, such as fire hydrants and other utilities.

Traffic Bollards Shouldn't Detract from a Location's Visual Appeal

If the installation site for a system of traffic safety posts contains visually appealing architecture, art or other aspects that make it stand out, property managers should configure posts in a way that maintains that appeal. While some places might benefit from architectural bollards, these types of locations can also utilize yellow safety bollards that provide plenty of security and visual deterrence without remaining unsightly. Locations should try to implement an effective traffic post configuration that doesn't compromise security for aesthetics. Traffic safety barriers should also allow access for authorized vehicles and pedestrians. When installing traffic posts, property managers should make sure that their bollard systems maintain a good balance between access control and security. Whether using collapsible, fixed or removable posts, or a combination of all three, installation sites can benefit from having reliable security that isn't overly intrusive or aesthetically displeasing. With traffic safety barriers present, employees and other visitors will also experience peace of mind knowing that they're safe from potential harm.
